Interesting day

Two very interesting activity happened today and i want to talk about it.

Activity 1: Helping out in Sec 2 games

I was given a choice, should I watch a movie during the Chinese intensive programme or should I help out in the sec 2 games. I decided to help out in the sec 2 games instead of the movie as it is a more meaningful activity compared to watching a movie.

My job is to control the crowd. A first, it was very chaotic. There are people all over the place. However, when everything settled down, it became very boring. Most of the sce2s are playing games (Soccer, Captain’s Ball, Floor ball), the rest are allowed to walk about and cheer for their friends. There is actually not much crowd to control. Also I don’t want to spoil their mood by shouting at them, do I have almost nothing to do.

However, it soon became interesting as Banana, kiwi and mango are bored too. We got a handball and start playing with it randomly. It was quite fun, I enjoyed it.

I did not reject opting to help out in the sec2 games. It is a much interesting experience compared to watching movie.

Activity 2: Helping someone special

I went to Bishan library to borrow a book. On my way home, I saw a disabled person on a wheelchair trying to sell some biscuits, yet everybody that pass by her treated her as if she is invisible. That reminded of the trouble I had during Flag Day, trying to get people to donate. I felt that I should buy some biscuits from her.

However, there is another side of me urging me not to help and just go home. It is telling me the consequences that I may have to face if I help. ‘What will others think of me?’ was the main worry I have that stops me from helping.

I read an article in empathy a few days ago. That day, I vowed to show more empathy to the people around me. This memory gave me the courage and overcome my fears. I went up to her with the intent of giving her 5 bucks without taking any biscuits. However, in the end, I still took the biscuits. It goes like this.

“Here is five dollars; you don’t have to give me any biscuits,” I said.

“One packet for two dollars,” she said.

“Well then, I will take two, keep the change,” I said.

I was very happy after that, very pleased with myself.

Saikano

Saikano AKA The Last love song on this little planet AKA Saishuu Heiki Kanojo

I bumped onto this brilliant manga and wants to talk about it.

The story begins with Shuji and Chise falling in love. Shuji is very unsure of his initial feelings for Chise and feels that their relationship is more trouble than its worth, though his feelings deepen as the story progresses.

Chise is a shy, clumsy girl with very little self-esteem and has poor grades in everything except for World History.

However, after an air raid in Sapporo, Shuji found out that Chise is actually a War Machine. She is a Cyborg and is in the army. She constantly helps Japan fight their invaders.

The series revolves around her and her fading humanity, the more she uses her powers, the less human she becomes. Soon, weapon-side starts to take over her body. In the end, her love for Shuji is the last of her humanity she can cling onto.

The happy parts in the story are very sweet (Chapter1-10, Chapter 60-72), however, the tragic parts (middle) in the story are very very tragic. Thus, I don’t recommend this manga if you are very emotional.

The manga has a lot of nice morals. I realize that power isn’t very important, every thing fade away in the face of death, making everyone equal. Instead of gathering more power, we should spend our loving, cherishing the people around us, making a difference in their lives.

The ending reminds me of a quote for Steve Jobs, ‘Everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.’ I really liked this manga very much.

Rating 9/10

Now, I am into romance mangas. ^-^

15-10-08

Today is quite interesting, due to script check and challenge quest trainings.

Today is the third day of the morning trainings with Watermelon. We have been training for Challenge Quest and have been pumping 100 every morning for the last two days. However, today he can only pump until 50 because his muscles have not fully recovered from the last two sessions yet. He will become stronger when his muscles heal.

After that is script check. Today, we checked SS, English and Chemistry. I did well for SS and Chemistry, average for English.

I feel that SS script check was the most boring. From the SS script check, I made an amazing discovery. I realized that sour lime is crazy! I am glad that I have grape and not lime. Lime felt that a lot of time will be wasted if we are not seated in index number. In the end, we wasted more time because crazy lime arranged us until we are seating according to index number. Also, I found out that crazy lime scold very well. It spent 20 mins for the 1st question, 50% of that time was wasted in scolding, even though it was considered acceptable for most fruits.

NOTE: I set a virus that activates if lime tries to access my blog and read this post. It will definitely crash her computer and any one who read it if it is activated.

I enjoyed English the most. Pineapple, mango and jackfruit, presented their stuff and put their point across very well. I really liked the part where they go through some funny mistakes we made while writing compositions. It was really fun.

I am very satisfied with my Chemistry results. Although I did not make it in to the hall of fame, I got a respectable score. I am two marks away from entering the hall of fame. Instead of feeling sad, I feel quite relived. I thought I got much worse.

The Challenge Quest training was interesting. I did not do any planning beforehand; I think it was smooth although it was short. Horny Johnny could not make it cos he has Chinese remedial, so I have to train watermelon and banana alone. We did 110 sit ups, 80 push ups (watermelon’s arm was still aching) and 5 rounds. The most challenging was the 5 rounds around the track, I nearly died! Lucky I said 5 rounds, I would have died if I said anymore. We came back, as a whole, with a respectable timing of 9min 17.58 sec. Generally, I think that the training was short but sweet.

I CANNOT WAIT FOR CHALLENGE QUEST… TO SHOW MY POWER

Note: All the names are not real, to protect myself from getting into trouble.

Exams are over...

… but I can confused. By right, I should be happy. Am I happy?

I am happy because exams are over. I can finally take a short break from mugging. I feel like a bird that is finally set free, free to do all the things that I like. I got dam a lot of free time, no need to go to school for two days! I can finally do the things I want to do before the exams.

However, I am not really happy. I feel kinda lost. Everything happened too fast. I had intensive mugging for about 8 days straight, cannot relax, almost all my time is invested on studies. Then, all of a sudden, I am free to do anything I want… too free, so free that I do not know what to do with all the excess time. There is so much time and so little to do.

So I sat down and think. What should I do with all this excess time? I kinda lost interest in computer games already. I dislike going out too often. I don’t want to waste my time. I don’t want to study. I don’t know what to do.

I manage to produce this list after thinking for some time.

1) Research on Challenge Quest
2) Train more, do 200+100+100 push ups every day. (Cannot wait to show my power during Challenge Quest)
3) Start working on first aid slides for leadership camp. (Waste time now for more time later)
4) Sign up for CIP to do during holidays. (Later fully booked, cannot do CIP)
5) Work on an AMV (Always wanted to make a good one but no time)
6) Read more mangas
7) Exercise more
8) Plan for my next PT and the PT after that and the PT after that… (Must try to make it more interesting)
9) Post more

After I think about it, there are a lot of things I need to do!

brief review

Here is a brief review on what happened this week…

Monday and Tuesday was hell, but Thursday and Friday is heaven. It keeps getting easier and easier… perhaps I am getting used to the intensive mugging and nervousness.

In my opinion, the most challenging paper was physics, it was the most difficult physics paper I ever did. Personally, I like physics very much, but I dun think I will do well for this paper. I will be very happy if I get an A2.

The most memorable paper I did was social studies. This is what happen after the paper...

Invigilator: The second last guy on the last row, the one wearing a black jacket, see me later for talking to the people on your right.

She made 3 mistakes. First, that guy was at least 7 seats from the last guy, dunno how she count. Second, there was no one on his right. Third, it is column, not row. We gave her a magnificent round of applause for her mastery in maths.

I feel that the easiest paper was Amaths. Those who think that Amaths was very hard, good luck. A lot of people, including me, felt that Amaths was easy. When I finished, I still have about an hour left. I think that I have a dam high chance of 90+/100 for Amths.

In conclusion...Haiz, I cannot wait for exams to be over… just 4 more days…

Quote of the week: ‘WIN THE WAR’

Haiz

Yawn. Today I am dam tired cos I slept at 1.30am yesterday. I started working on homework at 11.30 pm after mugging. When I finished it, it was around 1.30am already. Morale of the story: Do homework before mugging.

This week has been a very boring and tiring week… thanks to FYE. Everyday is like go to school, go home mug and then sleep. I cannot wait for FYE to be over. Then cca will resume, I will have more time to slack, more time to read mangas. HAIZ.

Romance Manga

I normally read action-packed manga like Naruto and One Piece. I do not really read romance manga until lately cos I bumped onto the manga called ‘Bitter Virgin’.

A very good tragic manga that is a seriously toned and does not contain any pornography, even though the title sounds a bit sick.

For me the manga is very sad. The whole manga, we can see from the name of the chapters itself tell us about the story. (her tragedy. her horror, her grief, her step, etc.) Unlike most romance mangas, it does not combine any romance with action or comedy or fantasy. I like it because it is serious, real and has a very interesting plot.

The manga touches on some issues such as androphobia, love, rape, stillbirth... It's taught me a lot about the kind of experience those people go through, the feelings they have.

I will recommend this for mature readers to read, not those that thinks romance = pornography. Can be found in onemanga.com.

Also, if anyone knows of a manga similar to bitter virgin, pls tell me. Thanks.
